Leeds Big Screen

Armed Forces Day is a chance to show your support for the men and women who make up the Armed Forces community: from currently serving troops to Service families, veterans and cadets.

Hosted by the Lord Mayor of Leeds, Leeds will celebrate Armed Forces Day on Sunday 25th June, 11am – 4pm with a free event on Briggate in Leeds City Centre. The day will include a parade, stalls, stands and exhibitions, plus activities for the whole family to get involved with. The Army, Navy and Air Force will all be present. Civic buildings will be lit up red, white and blue on Leeds Armed Forces Day.

We’re delighted that the following organisations will have a stall at the event.

  • 101 Regt Royal Artillery, 269 Battery
  • ABF Soldier’s Charity
  • Army – 150 Transport Regiment / 217 Transport Squadron
  • 212 Field Hospital
  • City of Leeds Sea Cadets
  • Help for Heroes
  • HMS Ceres
  • Northern Reserves Support Wing (NRSW) – RAF
  • Royal Air Force Careers
  • Royal British Legion
  • Royal Engineers Association
  • WRAF branch of the RAF Association

There will be a range of fantastic family friendly activities at the event. Try your hand at our climbing wall, get your face painted or try out den building with Chris Harman. There will also be entertainment throughout the day, from The Daisy Belles, Dishforth Military Wives choir, West Yorkshire Police band, City of Leeds Pipe band and Rocky Road.

One lucky winner can reach for the sky this summer, with the Leeds Armed Forces Day Grand Raffle to win a flight experience in a vintage De Havilland Tiger Moth biplane.

The flight experience winner (subject to meeting the terms and conditions) will take to the skies in the open cockpit of a 1930s Tiger Moth, operated by Tiger Moth Academy, from Breighton Airfield near Selby. The 30-minute flight will be on a flight path of the winners choosing and they will even get to take control themselves, following an on-the-ground briefing from a qualified pilot.

The Armed Forces Day Grand Raffle, being run by the Friends of Leeds Armed Forces Day, has been made possible by the kind donation of the flight experience by Sergeant Dave Walker of the 4th Battalion, The Parachute Regiment, based in Pudsey. Tickets are on sale now at the Leeds Box Office for only £1 each. All proceeds will go towards Leeds Armed Forces Day and local armed forces charities.

Tickets for the Tiger Moth flight experience will be on sale until 4pm on Sunday 2 July 2023 at: https://bit.ly/afdraffle
